hi! it's m eudaemaniacal, let's talk game
Sep. 6th, 2014 04:46 pmWhat's the game about?
You are a scientist, a surveyor, former military personnel, a linguist-- whatever you are, you're defined by your skillset and not by your name. You are forbidden from using your name. You are exploring a place called Area X, a stretch of Florida's Forgotten Coast cut off from the world some years before by an environmental disaster. Area X has been guarded and charted incrementally by a military organization called the Southern Reach. Area X has anomalous properties. Area X is pristine wilderness. Area X is really weird and a lot a lot a lot of people have, probably, died, in learning the scant handful anyone knows about it. It's reasonable to assume you won't return, or that somehow you'll be irreversibly changed.
This will be a very short-term game! I don't see it running more than a month. It's IDEAL if you haven't read the Southern Reach books yet. You'll have no preconceptions about what Area X is or what it contains. You're welcome to stay if you have read them, but try to approach the expedition as though you know nothing. Your character will know nothing. I'd like for you to find what you can, collect as many samples as you can, and learn everything you can about previous expeditions. Expect minor spoilers for the first book, Annihilation.
Who can I play?
Anyone, panfandom or OC, with the general expectation that they're AU'd for the setting. They're likely American, in their thirties at the least, and they will have volunteered for the expedition. They will not use their names. Instead they'll go by a title, e.g. the biologist, the psychologist, the surveyor. Canonical explorers of Area X have included linguists and anthropologists, so there's a wide set of careers to choose from.
Because this is between friends, I don't anticipate applications being very strenuous or even much of a thing. Ideally, 4 to 10 people comprise the expedition.
i love to die please sign me up
Okay! Since this is an informal game for friends, I want to get an idea of when people are available and what they're interested in doing. Let's start a discussion in the comments!

- What's your name?
- Who would you be interested in playing?
- What's your general availability for the next two months? When are you usually available for RP?
- Do you have any questions about the setting?
